Basement Moisture and Mold Control in Wichita, KS

- Dehumidifier basics
Licensed and insured. Many years in business serving the greater Wichita area.
Know your humidity
The EPA says to keep indoor humidity below 60%, ideally between 30% and 50% (EPA). A small hygrometer from a hardware store shows where your basement sits. Check it across a few weeks, including after a rain.
Use a dehumidifier when needed
The EPA advises a dehumidifier when a room such as a basement is too humid, and says to clean it regularly and follow the maker instructions (EPA). We plan a spot and a drain path for one during the layout.
Dry things fast
The EPA says to dry wet items within 24 to 48 hours (EPA). Wet carpet or cardboard stored on a slab is a common start for mold. Do not cover a wall that is damp.
Move water away from the house
The EPA says the ground should slope away from the foundation and a drain should carry rain water at least 5 feet from it (EPA). Check gutters, downspouts and window wells before you build.
Before and after drywall
- Fix leaks and grading first
- Test for radon, see our radon guide
- Leave a small gap at the slab under baseboards
- Keep storage off the floor
- Plan a vent fan in any bathroom
