Radon in Kansas
In a January 2022 release, KDHE reported that about one in four radon tests came back above the EPA action level, and elevated levels have turned up in every Kansas county (KDHE).
Test first
Testing is inexpensive. Kits are sold at county extension offices and local hardware stores, and KDHE says high levels can usually be lowered with venting (KDHE). The Kansas Radon Hotline is 800-693-5343.
Who can test and fix
Under Kansas law, anyone who tests for or mitigates radon must be certified by KDHE (KDHE certification law). Ask for the certificate before you hire.
Moisture
Damp basements get musty fast. Check gutters, grading, window wells and any cracks before drywall goes up. We will not cover a wet wall. See window wells, our moisture and mold guide and basement finishing.
